CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Due to the damage sustained from the derecho that swept through our beloved community on August 10, 2020, Orchestra Iowa has organized a fundraiser to help replace the music collection lost in the storm. Save Our Scores is a unique opportunity to become a part of Orchestra Iowa forever.
“The derecho was catastrophic for so many in our community, and the Orchestra unfortunately did not escape the damage,” said Jeffrey Collier, Chief Executive Officer for Orchestra Iowa. “Our music library is a treasure trove highlighting Orchestra Iowa’s rich history, and the loss of so many beloved scores with written notes and markings from many generations of musicians and conductors hit us particularly hard.”
It is estimated that we lost over $40,000 in printed music due to the damage to our library.
It has taken us months to mend this loss, and there is still a long way to go. So we are inviting you, our Orchestra Iowa family, to make a lasting impact on the future of our organization. By selecting a score to save, you not only become a very special donor, you become a vital part of Orchestra Iowa’s history.
We encourage you to browse the list of music here. Each listing includes both the conductor’s score and musicians’ parts. Your support will be memorialized in the Hankewich Library for generations of music lovers with your name or the name of your chosen honoree(s) permanently inscribed on the cover of the score. In addition to recognition, you will receive a Certificate of Authenticity for your contribution, and your gift will be acknowledged in a dedicated list in Overture Magazine. It will be known for many years to come that this music was saved by you!
