Orchestra Iowa's Statement on COVID-19

Orchestra Iowa has made the incredibly tough decision to cancel all Orchestra Iowa and Opus Concert Café performances through December 31, 2020. This includes the following performances:

Concert Schedule

Horn Calls, September 18-20
Beethoven 5×5, October 24-25
Ghostbusters, October 30
Triple B Threat, November 13-14
The Nutcracker, December 5
Holiday Spectacular, December 18-20

Additionally, in an effort to maintain fiscal stability during these turbulent times, all full-time Orchestra Iowa employees, including the Music Director and CEO, will be put on a 50% furlough beginning at the end of September.

While we are saddened we cannot yet return to the stage, we are committed to doing our part in ensuring the health and safety of our entire community. This still remains our top priority. The constantly changing public health environment has created many challenges for our beloved organization, including hosting our traditional season-opener, Brucemorchestra. Unfortunately, the pandemic coupled with the August derecho made the treasured event on the lawn of Brucemore impossible for the current year, but we are hopeful for its triumphant return in the fall of 2021.

That’s the other thing about change – it can also make us stronger. Just as we faced an enormous amount of change following the flood of 2008, we as an organization emerged stronger than before and are now the Orchestra you know and love today.

We will get through this. We will be back. And we will once again bring you beautiful symphonic music.

In the meantime, you can help us navigate these turbulent times by making a donation. Ticket sales are a vital part of Orchestra Iowa’s financial well-being, making up approximately 30% of our annual revenue. When we have no ticket sales revenue, we are completely reliant on the incredible generosity of our valued patrons to keep our doors open. This is an easy way you can make an enormous impact on our ability to survive the COVID-19 crisis!
