Iowa Public Radio is pleased to present a Thanksgiving Day encore of Orchestra Iowa’s Brucemorchestra: An American Salute concert. Recorded live on Sunday, September 7, 2014 on the grounds of Brucemore mansion in Cedar Rapids, this year’s Brucemorchestra theme was An American Salute. Featuring an All-American program, Orchestra Iowa performed works by Bernstein, Gershwin, and Copland. Bass-Baritone Kevin Deas, recently on the national tour of Porgy and Bess, joined Orchestra Iowa for works from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess Suite. The program, which kicked off Orchestra Iowa’s 93rd concert season, also includes Bernstein’s Three Dance Episodes from On the Town, Overture to Candide, and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, as well as Kevin Deas singing several selections from Copland’s Old American Songs.
