2014/2015 Season Features Seventeen Iconic Productions Pops at the Paramount Returns for the First Time since the 2008 Flood

Orchestra Iowa will bring the world of exhilarating, live performing arts to Eastern Iowa through seventeen symphonic, ballet, chamber music, opera, musical theater and special presentations in its 2014/2015 season. Iowa’s premier orchestra will be joined during its 93rd season by Ballet Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Theatre Cedar Rapids, Simpson College and an extensive roster of international guest artists.

Keeping with tradition, the Creative Corridor’s cultural season opens with Brucemorchestra! on September 7, 2014. An outdoor concert on the lawn at Brucemore, the evening features Bass-Baritone, Kevin Deas, and an all-American program showcasing the music of George Gershwin, Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein. Highlights from the orchestra’s main stage symphonic productions include Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, Dvořák’s Symphony No. 6, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis featuring the Simpson College Choir, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, Respighi’s Fountains of Rome and Debussy’s La Mer. Solo guest artists include Canadian pianist Winston Choi, Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan and American violinist Brian Lewis.

In addition to their symphonic performances, Orchestra Iowa once again joins together with Iowa’s finest leading arts organizations for six spectacular productions. Orchestra Iowa and Ballet Quad Cities will present four ballets: Dracula Returns (performed with the Orchestra Iowa String Quartet), Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet on Valentine’s Day and Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty. The Orchestra will also partner with the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre in their January 2015 production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni and team up with Theatre Cedar Rapids for the pair’s second musical theater collaboration, Rodgers and Hammerstein Classics in Concert!. Two additional popular presentations will be offered by Orchestra Iowa during the season: Holiday Spectacular and Cirque MUSICA.

Musicians from the Orchestra will afresh their spotlighted ensemble playing in the Showcase Chamber Series. The intimate musical experience will appear in September, January and May and feature the works from the likes of Beethoven, Schumann and Dvořák.

Locations this season include Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Davenport, Coralville and Fairfield. Performances will also be broadcast statewide on Iowa Public Radio.

Subscriptions will go on sale to renewing subscribers by the end of April and to new subscribers on June 15. Packages include the three-concert Showcase Chamber Series, the four-concert “Compose-Your-Own”, the five-concert Pops at the Paramount and the ten-concert Masterworks subscription. New this year, patrons will have the option to select all fourteen main stage performances with guaranteed seating, special benefits and a twenty percent discount for a low monthly price starting at $17 per month.
