Orchestra Iowa Masterworks III
American Dreams
featuring the Harlem Quartet
- Details
Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, one of Leonard Bernstein’s most beloved works, anchors this all-American program with its driving dance rhythms, heart-wrenching love songs, and famous battle cries (“Mambo!”). THE HARLEM QUARTET, known for their “fresh, bracing and intelligent” artistry (Cincinnati Enquirer), are the featured guests performing Michael Abels’ Delights & Dances, a work that incorporates a fusion of jazz, blues, bluegrass, and Latin dance. Wind, a brand-new celebratory work by Iowa native Michael Gilbertson in honor of Orchestra Iowa’s Centennial will receive its world premiere performances.
