Violinist Dawn Gingrich, concertmaster of Orchestra Iowa since 2015, has captivated audiences throughout the world as both a soloist and chamber musician. As a recitalist, she has concertized in Paris, Barcelona, Germany, New York, Chicago, Boston, Santa Barbara, and Baltimore, and has made solo appearances at the New England Conservatory, Longy School of Music, the Juilliard School, Mannes College, Northwestern University, and Indiana University. She has earned top prizes at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, Skokie Valley Symphony Concerto Competition, and the Music Academy of the West Concerto Competition. She began her studies at the age of three with Barbara Bredemeier and later went on to study with renowned pedagogue Eric Rosenblith at the New England Conservatory, Zvi Zeitlin of Eastman School of Music, and Associate Concertmaster of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Samantha George. Throughout her studies, Ms. Gingrich also received invaluable coaching and guidance from members of the Takacs Quartet and Cleveland Quartet.

Ms. Gingrich’s career as a chamber musician includes collaborations with members of the Boston Trio, Formosa Quartet, and Parker String Quartet, as well as members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Sarasota Orchestra, and Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal. Festival appearances include Yellow Barn Chamber Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, the International Musical Arts Institute, Washington Island Music Festival, Chicago’s Beethoven Festival, and the Thüringische Sommer-Akademie in Böhlen, Germany. A passionate advocate of new music, Ms. Gingrich was recently presented by the Chicago Philharmonic in a performance of a new string quartet by Chicago composer Benton Wedge. Ms. Gingrich has also been a regularly featured soloist with Chicago’s Bach Week Festival since 2005. This past season has included the presentation of an exciting piano trio program of Ives and Takemitsu with pianist Esther Park and cellist Jacques Lee Wood, a performance of Haydn Seven Last Words for string quartet with Chicago Symphony Orchestra cellist Jonathan Pegis and Sarasota Orchestra associate principal violist Matthew Pegis, solo recitals with pianist Tanya Gabrielian and harpsichordist Jason Moy, chamber music concerts with violinists Jasmine Lin, Samantha George, and cellist Gabriel Cabezas, as well as collaborations with noted jazz musicians Howard Levy and Dan Tepfer. 2008 saw the release of Time Beyond Me, an album recorded in collaboration with Boston Trio pianist Heng-Jin Park and Dawn’s father, Chicago Symphony Orchestra associate principal french hornist Daniel Gingrich, which features the Brahms Horn Trio as well works of unaccompanied Bach for violin. Ms. Gingrich has also given solo and chamber performances on Live from WFMT, WTTW’s Chicago Tonight, and Chicago’s ABC7

Ms. Gingrich has served as Guest Concertmaster for the Music Academy of the West Festival Orchestra, the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific, and has had the pleasure of working with such conductors as Timothy Hankewich, Peter Oundjian, Jahja Ling, David Robertson, and Larry Rachleff. She plays regularly with the San Diego Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Binghamton Philharmonic, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, and Chicago Philharmonic.
