Carmina Burana Chorus Auditions - Spring 2024

Summary

Orchestra Iowa is holding auditions to form a chorus to rehearse and perform Orff’s epic Carmina Burana under the direction of Maestro Timothy Hankewich. The choir will rehearse beginning in March 2024, with performances scheduled to take place in May 2024 at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids and Voxman Concert Hall in Iowa City.


Chorus Audition Schedule

Auditions for the chorus will be held 4:00-7:00pm on the 2nd floor of the Orchestra Iowa building on the following days:

Participant Details

Performance Note

As chorus numbers are finalized, we will announce a reduced choir if necessary for the Paramount Theatre performance by late March or early April.

Chorus Member Expectations

• Accepted members are expected to purchase their own piano/vocal score for Carmina Burana.
• Accepted members must download the practice recording to prepare.
• Download appropriate part from www.rehearsalarts.com to practice part in advance of first rehearsal on March 3, 2024.
• There are associated costs with this download, which is expected to be no more than $20.
• Accepted members must commit to attending 75% of all scheduled rehearsals and the final orchestra rehearsal on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Dress Code Requirements

• Men: Black shoes, black socks, black button-down shirt, black jacket, no tie
• Women: Concert black: long dress or pants preferred, moderate neckline, no sleeveless, black shoes

Fees

At this time, there are no assessed fees for participating in the Carmina Burana chorus.
The only noted expenses are those outlined above for purchasing scores and accessing the rehearsal website.
