Orchestra Iowa seeks a dynamic individual to support the OI Development team. This position is part time; 20-25 hours a week with the opportunity for a flexible schedule.

The Development Associate supports the fundraising needs of Orchestra Iowa through operational and administrative support of the Development team. The Development Associate’s work is an integral piece to the overall success of the Orchestra’s fund development efforts as the ideal candidate will need to be able to successfully complete tasks of a wide nature, both independently and effectively with the team. The Development Associate will need to be able to move projects forward to completion with forward thinking decision making and a good amount of autonomy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Development Operations (50%)

  • Manage contribution (gift) entry and acknowledgement letters (charitable donation tax receipts) through database system
  • Assist with acquiring donation reports from participating organizations and their respective online portals and/or reporting systems
  • Maintain and update constituent records
  • Maintain updated and accurate donor listings, including running quarterly comprehensive donor lists for publication in Orchestra Iowa’s Overture magazine
  • Assist Development Team with advertising sales for Overture magazine
  • Coordinate with advertisers to ensure all ad content is collected and delivered to Overture designer by pre-determined deadlines
  • Work with the CFO to provide proper tracking, invoicing, payment collection for advertisers
  • Assist Development Team with fundraising appeals, including coordination with print and mailing companies to distribute mailed pieces.
  • Provide support to the Development Team

Donor Benefits Fulfillment (15%)

  • Assist with the coordination, execution, and management of a variety of donor benefits which may include managing concert parking lists, corporate partner discounts, and membership card distribution
  • Monitor and execute stewardship initiatives, including benefit fulfillment, follow up calls, Board & donor partnership initiative, etc
  • Make recommendations to Development Team to improve donor relations and donor experiences

Board Engagement (15%)

  • Manage and coordinate ongoing tasks with volunteer Board members such as donor thank you notes, special invitation concert tickets, newcomer contacts, and more
  • Assist with coordinating logistics, promotion, sponsor recognition and execution of fundraising events

Development Administration (20%)

  • Assist Patron Engagement team in creating and monitoring comprehensive communications calendar, incorporating fundraising appeals, direct mail, email communication, grant deadlines, and other communications
  • Assist at OI concerts, always acting as a positive representative of Orchestra Iowa and helping Patron Engagement Team as needed to ensure exceptional concert-going experiences for attendees
  • Assist in answering phone calls
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Must have at least two years’ experience in Administrative/Customer Service work
  • Experience in event planning highly desired
  • Desire to be part of a high-performance team with a passion for and commitment to excellence
  • Must have exceptional organizational, time management, and planning skills
  • Must have demonstrable experience and confidence in managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have the ability to thrive and succeed in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong attention to detail necessary
  • Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner
  • Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Office required; familiarity with Office 365 environment preferred
  • Commitment to professional, kind, helpful, and engaging customer service practices
  • Experience with Tessitura and/or other patron relationship/CRM database preferred
  • Occasional evening and/or weekend availability to assist at and attend concert performances and events
  • Driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle
  • Passion for the arts a must
