What better way to start each month, than an evening of jazz at the Opus Concert Café. Offering an eclectic mix of the Corridor’s best jazz soloists and ensembles, each month features a new musical talent and their tribute to the genre that has defied the eras.

December features “Betsy Hickok/Ron Roberts Quintet”

Betsy and Ron divide their time between the Corridor and the Ames/Des Moines music scene. Betsy holds an M.F.A. in poetry from the University of Iowa and performed for many years in the Iowa City area, including stints with Too Much Yang and pianist Dan Knight. When she moved to Central Iowa, she went looking for a guitarist to work with. A friend connected her with Ron Roberts and to say their partnership blossomed is an understatement, since not long after, they got married!

Ron is a Chicago area native who worked extensively in the Chicago Jazz scene before moving to Iowa. Between the two, Betsy and Ron have performed at KCCK’s Jazz Under The Stars, First Friday Jazz, the Iowa City Jazz Festival, Des Moines’ Jazz in July, the Des Moines Arts Festival, Ames Summer Jazz Series, and many more.

2 Hours of Jazz from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

For only a $15 cover charge, guests can enjoy an evening of hot jazz in the coolest venue in town. Doors open at 4:30 PM and music begins at 5:00 PM. Running a bit late? No worries! Jazz 88.3 KCCK live broadcasts the first hour of every concert.

At First Friday Jazz, we want you to have a good time, celebrate with friends, and unwind into your weekend. The Opus Concert Café serves a wide array of liquid libations that are the perfect pairing to your jazz infused musical entrée of the evening.

Beginning March 8, 2022 masks will not be required to be worn in our facilities or at our concerts. If, as a member of our audience, you feel more comfortable wearing a mask, please feel free to do so.
