Music Director Tim Hankewich has been hard at work in curating an exciting new season with mammoth masterworks, powerful pops, and plenty of standout stars! We hope that you are as excited as we are about the upcoming season!
The 2018-19 Orchestra Iowa season includes world-renowned guest artists like pianist Jonathan Biss, cellist Zuill Bailey, and classical guitarist Ana Vidovic as well as local artists from within Orchestra Iowa like University of Iowa pianists Réne Lecuona and Ksenia Nosikova. All of these extraordinary artists will be playing alongside our. fantastic Orchestra Iowa musicians. A mix of mammoth masterwork staples like Mahler’s Symphony 1, aptly named Titan, and hidden gems including Ernest Bloch’s mesmerizing Schelomo performed by Young Concert Artists’ most recent competition winner, cellist Zlatomir Fung ensure that the Masterworks season will entice listeners of all persuasions.
Orchestra Iowa’s most unique characteristic is its variety in programming, and that means more opportunities for you to be entertained and inspired all year long. Following on the heels of the recent success with Casablanca, the 2018-19 Pops Series kicks off with another feature-length film with orchestra, Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller, Psycho. The series is rounded out with the Magical Music of Harry Potter and the ever-popular Holiday Spectacular, this year featuring the superbly talented Lynne Rothrock and an epic tribute to the music of rock icon David Bowie. Collaboration remains at the heart of our programming, with partnerships resulting in thrilling family-friendly productions with Ballet Quad Cities including the iconic Nutcracker Ballet and Peter and the Wolf, Mother Goose, and other fairy tales.
