2017-2018 Season Announcement

Music Director Tim Hankewich has been hard at work in curating fun, unique and inspiring concerts for Eastern Iowa audiences, and we hope that you are as excited as we are about the upcoming season!

The 2017-18 Orchestra Iowa season includes extraordinary guest soloists like pianist Emanuel Ax and pianist Joyce Yang, as well as musicians from within Orchestra Iowa like cellist Laura Usiskin and pianist Miko Kominami. A mix of masterwork war horses like Mahler’s Symphony 3, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, and hidden gems including Alberto Ginastera’s Variaciones Concertantes and William Bolcom’s Orphee Serenade ensure that the Masterworks season will entice listeners of all persuasions.

Orchestra Iowa’s most exciting quality is its variety in programming, and that means you will have more opportunities to be entertained and inspired in the season ahead. An expanded Pops Series in 2017-18 will engage the young and young-at-heart with Casablanca watch the film with live Orchestra, music of the 80s Mickey Thomas from Starship, iconic songs from Classical Mystery Tour: The Beatles Tribute, and the always-popular Holiday Spectacular, in which Maestro Hankewich brings together creative talents from all around to create a one-of-a-kind family tradition each December. And collaboration remains at the heart of our programming, with partnerships resulting in thrilling productions with Ballet Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre.
