95th Season Announcement
Music Director Tim Hankewich has been hard at work in curating fun, unique and inspiring concerts for Eastern Iowa audiences, and we think he hit the ball out of the park!
The 2016-17 Orchestra Iowa season includes extraordinary guest soloists like pianist Andreas Klein and saxophone superstar Branford Marsalis, as well as musicians from within Orchestra Iowa like concertmaster Dawn Gingrich and principal horn Andy Harris. A mix of masterwork war horses like Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherezade and Bach’s B Minor Mass and hidden gems including Duke Ellington’s Three Black Kings and Alan Hovhaness’s Mysterious Mountain ensure that the Masterworks season will entice listeners of all persuasions.
Orchestra Iowa’s most exciting quality is its variety in programming, and that means you will have more opportunities to be entertained and inspired in the season ahead. An expanded Pops Series in 2016-17 will engage the young and young-at-heart with Wicked Broadway stars, music of the 80s rock band Journey, iconic film soundtracks by John Williams, and the always-popular Holiday Spectacular, in which Maestro Hankewich brings together creative talents from all around to create a one-of-a-kind family tradition each December. And collaboration remains at the heart of our programming, with partnerships resulting in thrilling productions with Ballet Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre.
